Appropriations update
On Sept. 16, House Republicans released text on a 7-week stopgap funding bill. The following day, House Democrats released their own version which includes the addition of health policy provisions. House leadership is planning a vote on Sept. 19. The bill will need 60 votes in the Senate. It is currently unclear how, and whether, the two sides will come together to avert a government shutdown.

CMS visit
On Sept. 17, Emory welcomed CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz and HRSA Administrator Thomas Engels to tour Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Celebrating Medical Research Week
Lawmakers have introduced H.Res.708, officially designating Sept. 15–19 as Medical Research Week in recognition of the life-saving impact of NIH-supported research. Emory applauds this bipartisan effort, and urges continued robust funding for the NIH. We encourage folks to share the Ad Hoc Group’s statement across social media to spotlight the transformative power of medical research.

Community Affairs

Northlake tour
We enjoyed welcoming City of Tucker Mayor Frank Auman, Economic Development Director Erica Rocker, and Assistant to the City Manager Micah Seibel for a tour of Emory’s Northlake Facility. The visit was an opportunity to showcase Emory’s presence at Northlake Mall and explore ways to continue strengthening our partnership with the City of Tucker and the broader community.

Voting
Emory will once again serve as a DeKalb County polling site. Early voting runs Oct. 14–31, and Election Day is Nov. 4. A runoff, if needed, will take place Nov. 22–26, with Election Day on Dec. 2. Interested in volunteering? Sign up here.
