Federal Affairs

On Oct. 7, Jessica Davis, Chancellor Greg Fenves, and Cameron Taylor spent the day visiting with various administration officials at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Office of Management and Budget, and the Department of Justice. Topics included technology to improve health care, the unique structure of Emory, royalty income related to the endowment tax and the expected revision of the Facilities and Administrative (F&A) cost structure.

On Oct. 15, Jane Gatewood, vice provost for Emory Global Engagement, was on Capitol Hill meeting with Georgia congressional staff to discuss the challenges related to government policies restricting the visa status of our international students and scholars.

Picuted above from left to right: Jane Gatewood, incoming OGCA Assistant Director of Federal Affairs Elizabeth Goines, and Cameron Taylor met in Congressman Rick Allen’s office last week. Elizabeth began working for Emory on Oct. 20. Please help us welcome her!

The government shutdown is showing no signs of ending soon. Federal workers are facing the prospects of no or diminishing paychecks. Millions of Americans who rely on government assistance may be left in limbo. For the time being, a federal judge has blocked the Office of Management and Budget’s efforts to lay off up to 10,000 federal workers. OGCA continues to express support for a return to regular government operations.

As we continue to look for ways to highlight the importance of higher education in individual communities, a new resource from the American Council on Education is helpful. Please review and share with your networks!

Community Affairs

Levett Street renaming
On Oct. 12, members of the OGCA team attended the street renaming and parkway dedication ceremony honoring Mr. Greg Levett, an Emory Healthcare board member whose legacy of service, leadership and deep community impact continues to resonate across our institution. The event brought together elected officials and community leaders as well as members from both Emory University and Emory Healthcare to celebrate Levett’s enduring contributions and the values he championed — compassion, excellence and a steadfast commitment to uplifting others.

Community wellness event
On Oct. 26, OGCA will collaborate with Emory Healthcare to support Cross Culture 365’s upcoming Health and Fitness event in Clayton County. This community-centered event will feature fitness demonstrations, wellness information and on-site services from the Emory Healthcare Mobile Prostate Screening Bus. Registration is free and open to the public. Click here to register. We hope to see you there!

OGCA Updates

Board of Visitors
The Emory Board of Visitors launched its 2025-26 programming year with an inspiring presentation and behind-the-scenes tour at Emory University Hospital, led by members of the Serious Communicable Diseases Program. Dr. Colleen Kraft, Dr. Aneesh Mehta and Jill Morgan, RN, shared insights into Emory’s global leadership in infectious disease care and preparedness.

We also welcomed the distinguished community and alumni leaders of the 2025-26 cohort as they begin their two-year term of service. Their engagement and dedication will help strengthen Emory’s connection to the broader community.
