Bill Signings

Governor Brian Kemp continues to sign passed legislation into law. Recently, the State Affairs team was invited to participate in the signing ceremonies for both SB 246 and HB 85. SB 246 was signed into law at West Georgia Technical College’s Coweta Campus. The bill establishes a loan repayment program for nursing faculty. At the Capitol, the Governor signed into law HB 85. This new law expands coverage for biomarker testing, a vital tool informing the best course of treatment for a cancer patient. Dr. Suresh Ramalingam, Executive Director of Winship Cancer Institute, testified in committee in support of this bill. Mindy Simon from Emory’s Office of the General Council was included in a signing ceremony in the Governor’s office for SB 148, which revises, simplifies, and modernizes the chapter relating to nonprofit corporations and allows corporations flexibility in their articles and bylaws. Governor Kemp thanked Mindy and the team that worked on the bill, and also recognized it as one of the longest bills passed in the 2023 legislation session.
