Election Guidance

Election season can raise important questions for our community. Take two minutes to review this guide, which explains the distinction between personal civic engagement and activities undertaken in a university capacity, and outlines how to remain aligned with university policy and federal law.

Federal Affairs

Congressman Clay Fuller’s visit to Emory University
On Aug. 11, Emory welcomed Rep. Clay Fuller (GA-14) to the Atlanta campus. An Emory alumnus and former member of the Emory men’s basketball team, Rep. Fuller returned to campus to meet with university leaders and learn more about Emory’s academic, research and healthcare missions.

Congressional visit to Emory Hospital Warner Robins

The visit highlighted Emory’s NICU and allowed congressional staff to learn more about the specialized care and services Emory Healthcare provides to families in Middle Georgia.

State Affairs

Representative Saira Draper’s visit to Emory
On Aug. 4, the State Affairs team was pleased to welcome Rep. Saira Draper for visits to Emory University’s Atlanta campus and Emory University Hospital. The campus visit included a student-led tour, providing an opportunity to hear about the Emory student experience and academic environment firsthand. During the hospital visit, Rep. Draper toured the Serious Communicable Disease Unit, the Emory Transplant Center and Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. The visit highlighted Emory’s leadership in infectious disease preparedness, nationally recognized transplant programs, and innovative cancer research and care at Georgia’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Health Study Committees Underway
Two House study committees focused on healthcare policy have begun meeting ahead of the 2027 legislative session. OGCA is carefully monitoring and engaging in discussions on issues important to Emory’s tripartite mission.

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Community Health and Healthcare Oversight has met twice, beginning with presentations from state health agencies on their programs, priorities and current needs. The committee’s second meeting focused on physician recruitment and retention pipelines, as well as EMS governance and funding, with significant discussion around graduate medical education funding and strategies to strengthen Georgia’s healthcare workforce.

The House Study Committee on Pharmacy Benefits Managers (PBMs) and Consumer Access to Prescription Medications also held its first meeting, with discussions centered on the 340B Drug Pricing Program and PBM reform. The meeting underscored continued legislative interest in prescription drug access and the evolving role of PBMs in the healthcare system.
