Federal Affairs

Congressional Staff Tour
On Sept. 22, Emory hosted a bipartisan, bicameral group of congressional staffers. Their visit included a tour of Winship Cancer Institute, a walk through campus with an Emory Ambassador, and a hands-on experience at the School of Medicine’s simulation lab. Over lunch, staffers learned about Emory’s financial aid programs, including Emory Advantage Plus, a new initiative for families earning less than $200,000. Thanks to everyone across campus who helped make the day a success!

FDA CEO Forum
On Sept. 26, Emory hosted an FDA Listening Session with pharmaceutical and biotech CEOs. Dr. David Stephens opened with remarks on the importance of collaboration between industry, academia and the FDA. Congressman Buddy Carter (pictured with Cameron Taylor and David Stephens) and FDA Commissioner Dr. Martin Makary (pictured during his remarks) also spoke before the session transitioned into a roundtable discussion.

State Affairs

Emory Athletic Resolutions
On Oct. 1, Reps. Omari Crawford and Mary Margaret Oliver presented five resolutions celebrating Emory Athletics’ recent achievements. The resolutions honored the Learfield Director’s Cup, the Emory women’s golf team, the Emory men’s golf team, the Emory track and field team, and World Champion decathlete Nikki Boon.

The event was attended by members of the Emory golf and track and field teams, along with Nikki Boon, whose leadership and contributions continue to inspire the Emory community. This celebration highlighted the dedication, excellence and impact of Emory Athletics across campus and beyond. We are grateful for Reps. Crawford’s and Oliver’s acknowledgement and commemoration of Emory students’ athletic feats!

Community Affairs

Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce
On Oct. 2, Emory Hospital Warner Robins was featured in the Robins Regional Chamber Eggs & Issues event. More than 200 attendees learned more about Emory's plans for the newly acquired facility and strategies to improve health outcomes in the community. Representatives from EHWR included CEO Kevin Splaine, COO Michael Covert, and CMO Kathy Glass, as well as members of the OGCA team.

Spotlight on Prostate Cancer Awareness
On Sept. 30, Emory Hillandale Hospital held a panel discussion on improving access to prostate cancer screenings, led by CEO Jen Schuck. The conversation focused on expanding life-saving screening services across Georgia. Attendees also toured Emory’s new mobile screening unit, designed to bring critical care directly to communities.

We are especially grateful to the elected officials who joined us in support of this important initiative: State Representative Doreen Carter (D-93) and City of Stonecrest council members Terry Fye and Alecia Washington. Their presence underscores the vital role of community leadership in advancing health equity.
