House Study Committee on Cancer Care Access The House Study Committee on Cancer Care Access held its inaugural meeting on May 29 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville — hometown of Committee Chairman Representative Lee Hawkins. The session focused on Georgia’s cancer control strategies, recent cancer data and emerging issues such as thyroid cancer, providing valuable insights for our team.
On June 3, the committee convened again at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, where members heard testimony from a range of stakeholders, including the Georgia Department of Public Health, Department of Community Health, Georgia Hospital Association and Georgia Community Health Workers
OGCA will monitor this committee’s work throughout the summer and support Dr. Suresh Ramalingam, executive director of Winship Cancer Institute, in his role as a committee member.
Georgia Chamber Spring Government Affairs Meeting During the off-session period, the State Affairs team uses the time to connect with legislators and fellow policy professionals from across the state, continuing to build and maintain relationships critical to Emory’s work. From June 4-6, the team attended the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Spring Meeting of the Government Affairs Council. The event featured panels on key issues shaping Georgia’s policy landscape, including Governor Kemp’s priorities for his final legislative session, the role of bipartisanship under the Gold Dome and the latest developments in tort reform. |
