GA Bio Summit

On October 14, President Fenves and CDC Director Walensky appeared together at the 2021 Georgia Bio Innovation Summit in a session on “Moving Science Forward: A Conversation with the CDC and Emory University."

Molnupiravir

On October 6, Emory’s work related to inventing Molnupiravir was mentioned at a White House briefing.

On October 14, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it will hold an advisory committee meeting on November 30 to discuss Merck and Ridgeback's EUA application for molnupiravir, the antiviral pill for COVID-19 that was discovered at Emory. OGCA and Communications & Marketing will work together to advance a comprehensive communications plan related to molnupiravir, which will launch closer to FDA approval.

Last week, students from Professor Michael Rich’s Evidence-Based Policymaking class testified before the GA Senate legislative study committee on Improving Access to Healthy Foods and Ending Food Deserts, chaired by Senator Emanual Jones (GA-10). The course is part of a national network of faculty teaching at higher education institutions located in state capitals called ENACT, the Educational Network for Active Civic Transformation.

Community Engagement

DeKalb County Vaccination Event

On October 2, OGCA and others from across the Emory enterprise participated in DeKalb County’s vaccination drive in Stonecrest, GA. Working alongside DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond, Emory is committed to vaccinating DeKalb residents. The event drew over 2,500 people and over 2,100 people were vaccinated.

Atlanta Mayoral Candidate Forum

On October 5, Emory hosted an Atlanta Mayoral candidates forum at Glenn Memorial Auditorium. President Fenves welcomed the attendees and candidates, followed by additional remarks from the partnering organizations who co-hosted with Emory. Jocelyn Dorsey moderated the panel of 13 candidates, who responded to a variety of questions and spoke on a number of topics. The election will take place on November 2 and, if no candidate wins a majority of the vote (50%+ 1 vote), the run-off election will be held on November 30.

Faith and Blue Event

On October 9, OGCA, Emory Healthcare (EHC), Emory Police Department (EPD) and others from across the Emory enterprise participated in the Faith and Blue community event. This event was held at the House of Hope Church and is part of a national initiative to facilitate better communication between local pastors, law enforcement, and the community.

2036 Campaign Launch

From October 20-22, Emory will launch the 2036 campaign. In recognition of our bicentennial, Emory will elevate the goal of investing in people for the benefit of people, and bringing the community together to build on our mission to serve humanity through knowledge. The 2O36 campaign will spearhead a movement to rethink and reshape the university’s future.

In conjunction with the launch, Emory is pushing out a one-month regional advertising campaign in Atlanta, DC and NYC to elevate awareness of, and build excitement about, Emory.
